Were you part of any of the Irish Children's Summer Program visits from Belfast to South Carolina between 1984 and 2008?

We held a grand reunion event in Belfast City Hall on 13 March 2010 to celebrate and say thanks to everyone who was involved.

Program co-ordinators and American board members from South Carolina invited all to attend the Belfast City Hall from 6pm on Saturday 13 March 2010.

Numbers were limited and places were allocated on a first come first served basis, so registering was essential to secure your place.

The Irish Children's Summer Program took children aged nine to eleven years old from Belfast, Northern Ireland to South Carolina locations for several weeks every summer between 1984 and 2008. This encouraged children from both Protestant and Catholic upbringings to cultivate friendships among themselves and with American children. The children stayed with host families and participated in a variety of activities in the community. Host families were selected through an interview process and participated in a mandatory orientation programme prior to the children's arrival.
